Investment Management
in the Greater Houston Area
At M.C. Byrd, we have a background helping a diverse group, including individuals, families, business owners and non-profits in Texas and Louisiana build investment strategies tailored to their needs.
What Is Investment Management?
Investment management is where your money meets your goals.
We design a cost-efficient, tax-aware portfolio centered around your risk tolerance and objectives. In doing so, we use core investment principles like diversification, keeping expenses low, and remaining tax aware.
We use professional-grade, third-party research to inform our portfolio construction and asset allocation decisions. In addition to US equities and bonds, we use:
• International equities: oftentimes international stocks will outperform US equities. Many US investors miss out on this outperformance due to home country bias, or the tendency to invest in companies based in the investor’s home country.
• Managed futures: managed futures are uncorrelated to stocks or bonds, and benefit from volatile environments in which one or both of those asset classes suffer.
• Gold: like managed futures, this asset is uncorrelated to other areas of the market and benefits from volatility.
We regularly rebalance portfolios and have ongoing conversations with clients about:
• Risk tolerance.
• Tax considerations.
• Retirement planning.
• Major life events.
• Long-term financial goals.
Our Investment Philosophy
A Dynamic and
Tactical Approach
You are investing in order to accomplish long-term goals. We have built our investment process so that clients are allocated to asset classes
that can be held long term, while dynamically repositioning portfolio composition based on the market environment.
This approach helps us manage risk and better position clients’ portfolios for unique opportunities.
Managing Risk
Thoughtfully
Monte’s experience going through the dot-com bubble and the global financial crisis means risk is not solely a theoretical concept for our firm.
This real world experience influences the way we think about portfolio construction and asset allocation.
Portfolio Strategies
for Long-Term
Planning
When we discuss your portfolio strategy, we want to take into account:
1. Your personal risk tolerance, which we’ll assess with a test.
2. Your long-term goals, which we’ll discuss from a financial planning perspective.
We’ll then use that knowledge to suggest a portfolio that fits your preferences and needs.
Why Our Clients Work With Us
We are a fee-only Registered Investment Advisor. What does that mean? It means our compensation comes directly from you.
We are not paid sales commissions by mutual fund companies or broker-dealers.
We like this approach because it removes a potential conflict of interest and allows greater fee transparency.
When we recommend an investment product, it is because we believe it is in your best interest.
Long-Term Client
Relationships
Every member of our staff is coached on our service mentality. We intend to provide a custom experience tailored to your needs.
This approach has led to multigenerational client relationships stretching back to the late ‘80s.
Personalized Portfolio Management
Every client’s financial situation is different. That’s why our investment advice starts with a conversation centered around your goals, risk tolerance and financial picture.
Only then can we work together to build an investment strategy that is right for you.
